AMALIE BRYDE LAY DOWN

Amalie Byrde’s ‘Lay Down’ is a poignant commentary on gender inequality. Her vocals and words are enough to carry the track forward without the need for an explosive texture. Instead, we get a restrained jazz accompaniment, defined by a plucky bassline, sharp brass and the occasional whistling interlude. Byrde explains the story behind the vibrant track as “about a man only wanting to have sex with me, but so much more than that... [it’s] a commentary on gender inequality and what it means to be a woman in the 21st century; religiously, politically, professionally.” Be on the look for more from this exciting singer-songwriter. -Dan Peeke
